Defects Policy & Product Care

Introduction

At HFA, we take pride in producing quality apparel that is versatile, comfortable, and made to last. To ensure transparency and consistency, we’ve outlined our Defects Policy to clarify what is considered a defect and what falls within acceptable tolerance. We’ve also included Product Care guidelines to help you extend the lifespan of your pieces.

Defects Policy

The table below serves as our reference guide. It allows us to provide fair resolutions for genuine defects, while also clarifying natural variations and characteristics that are part of the production process.

Issue Reported Classification

Explanation / Notes

Shade variation in denim across batches Non-Defect Different dyeing/wash cycles may result in slight shade differences between batches. This is within tolerance and does not affect wearability.
Variation in acid/mineral wash tees Non-Defect Each wash is hand-finished, so pattern and tone may differ slightly. This is intentional and unique to the style.
Natural fabric specks or slubs Non-Defect Occurs naturally in cotton and denim; part of the fabric’s character.
Shrinkage after first wash (≤5%) Non-Defect Cotton and natural fibers may contract slightly after first wash. Considered normal if within 3–5%.
Loose threads at hem/seams Non-Defect (minor) Small threads may be trimmed safely. If seam unravels or stitching opens, it is a Defect.
Slight variance in logo/print alignment Non-Defect Printing methods may cause small variances. Only a Defect if misaligned heavily or peeling prematurely.
Peeling of heat-pressed label over time Non-Defect Labels may wear with repeated washing. Washing inside-out extends lifespan.

Measurement difference

(≤1 inch / 2.5 cm)

Non-Defect Slight variances due to manual cutting/sewing are within acceptable tolerance.
Uneven fade/wash marks (denim, tees) Non-Defect A natural outcome of wash techniques. Not a defect unless fabric integrity is compromised.
Wrinkling from packaging/transit Non-Defect Common in cotton/linen/rayon. Can be resolved with steaming or ironing.
Slight colour difference due to lighting/device Non-Defect Colours may vary slightly on screens or under lighting. Not considered a defect.
Perception of sheerness or thickness Non-Defect Fabric weight/opacity is subjective unless material is damaged.
Fit complaints (too tight/too loose) Non-Defect Fit is subjective. Only a defect if measurements exceed tolerance range.
Fabric feel (“itchy”/“rough”) Non-Defect Sensation is subjective. Only a defect if caused by unfinished seams or residue.
Design-intent fraying (distressed edges/raw hems) Non-Defect Fraying is part of style. If tearing occurs outside intended areas, classify as Defect.
Small removable stains/marks Non-Defect Light marks from production/packing that can be removed with gentle wash.
Slight misplacement of tags/lining threads Non-Defect Small internal details like lining threads or slightly off-center tags do not affect wearability.
Slight misalignment in embroidery/beading/studs Non-Defect Embellishments may vary slightly. If missing or falling off upon receipt, classify as Defect.
Mild dye transfer on first wash (dark fabrics) Non-Defect Some dye release is expected initially. A Defect only if excessive and damaging to appearance.
Broken zipper, missing button, open seam upon receipt Defect Functional faults in hardware or stitching at delivery are defects.
Holes, tears, or stains upon receipt Defect Visible damage when item is received new is a defect.
Heavy colour bleeding after wash Defect Severe bleeding that ruins appearance or transfers strongly to other garments is a defect.
Logo/print peeling within 1–2 washes Defect Early peeling despite care compliance qualifies as defect.
Severe pilling after minimal wear Defect Minor pilling is natural; heavy piling in short use is a defect.
Loose embellishments/beads falling off upon arrival Defect Missing/poorly attached trims at delivery are defects.

Product Care

Proper garment care helps maintain the quality, colour, and fit of your apparel. Please follow these guidelines:

• Hand wash recommended for delicate fabrics such as linen, tencel, rayon, drifit; avoid machine washing to preserve structure.

• Do not tumble dry — air dry naturally in shade to prevent shrinkage and fading.

• Flip inside out before washing garments with logos, prints, or embellishments to reduce abrasion.

• Avoid soaking for prolonged periods.

• Do not bleach or use harsh detergents.

• Do not use fabric softener, which coats fibres and reduces breathability.

• Separate laundry by colours: light with light, dark with dark, black separately for the first few washes.

• Use a laundry net for delicate items or garments with zippers, buttons, or trims.

• Steam/iron on low heat as needed, or follow garment label instructions.

Measurement Tolerance

Measurements provided on our website are taken with garments laid flat and are meant as a guide. Due to the nature of mass production, minor differences are unavoidable. A variance of up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) will not be considered a defect.
